Digital Footprint & TPACK

 ACTIVITIES TO DO BEFORE CLASS #1:

1) Read items sent to you via email (Syllabus, Digital Footprint & Portfolio) or you can locate these materials on ISAAK – see directions below.

  • Go to ISAAK at http://lms.brocku.ca/. Log in using your Brock username and password. Click here for a QuickStep called Using ISAAK that describes how to do this if you do not already know how!
  • Locate the tab for your EDUC8Y24 or EDUC8Y34 class. Click on the tab.
  • Locate the Syllabus tab on the left. Download and READ the syllabus. Be prepared for a pop quiz in our second class meeting!
  • Click on the Resources tab. Locate the folder called Week1 Module. Double-click to open that folder.
  • Locate the RANT! Read the file marked A_RANT.pdf. You will notice that the folder also includes the PowerPoint used in class for Week 1. You will find these included in the module folders for each week – just in case you need to refresh your memory about something we did in class!

2) Decide upon your ‘handle’ or display name for your Digital Footprint
3) Select an appropriate photo of yourself (professional dress, headshot is preferable)
4) Set up your Twitter account (Setting Up Your Twitter Account), SlideRocket account (Setting Up Your SlideRocket Account and Your First Slideshow), and your Digital Portfolio in Google Blogger (Setting up your Digital Portfolio in Google Blogger).
5) Bring your headphone/microphone or headphones/earbuds that fit your laptop to every class.
6) You are highly encouraged to bring your own computer.

LINKS YOU WILL NEED DURING CLASS 1

Before Class starts:

  • Log in to your computer (or a class computer using your Brock ID and password) and open your TWITTER account. Be prepared to use during class. Read through the handouts.
  • Begin working on the Digital Footprint Scavenger Hunt about YOUR Digital Footprint – you may not finish this before class, but you can start it now!

Housekeeping:

  • Housekeeping/Needed Items for this class/Peer Helper
  • Structure of the Course/Class Procedures
  • Getting to know you – Adding a ‘tweet’ to your new Twitter account

Set the Stage Activity:

  • Locate and work through the activities in the Digital Footprint Scavenger Hunt. Follow the directions there. (Work through the activity by yourself until stopped.)
  • Building a Digital Portfolio to record the development of your TPACK (View the video called Understanding TPACK).

Core Learning Activity:

  • TK, TCK, & TPK – Using SlideRocket to Illustrate YOUR TPACK (knowledge @ teaching with technology)  and begin building your Digital Footprint – Locate the tutorial called Slide Design using SlideRocket.

Closure Activity:

  • Google Docs Closure
