Getting "Handy" in the classroom with technology integration

Complete the following three activities before the Week 2 class:

Activity #1
Prepare for Pop Quiz
  1)

Purchase, download and READ Chapters 1 & 2 of our eTextbook (click here for directions or look in Week1 Module on ISAAK).

  2)

Locate the syllabus on ISAAK and read thoroughly by doing the following:

  • Go to ISAAK at http://lms.brocku.ca/. Log in using your Brock username and password.
  • Locate the tab for your EDUC8Y24 or EDUC8Y34 class. Click on the tab.
  • Locate the Syllabus tab on the left. Download and READ the syllabus. Be prepared for a pop quiz in our next class meeting!
  • Click on the Resources tab. Locate the folder called Week1 Module. Double-click to open that folder.
  • Locate the RANT! Read the file marked A_RANT.pdf. You will notice that the folder also includes the PowerPoint used in class for Week 1. You will find these included in the module folders for each week - just in case you need to refresh your memory about something we did in class!
Activity #2
Complete the Virtual Field Trip
  1) Complete the Web 2.0 Virtual Field Trip (go to the class wiki and click on the Web 2.0 Virtual Field Trip link. Follow the directions there.)
  2) After completing, go to ISAAK at http://lms.brocku.ca/. Log in using your Brock username and password.
  3) Locate the Assignments tab on the left side of the tool bar. Click on the Assignments tab.
  4) Locate the assignment called VFT (which stands for Virtual Field Trip). Click on the link to VFT.
  5)

Follow the instructions placed there to write up your Reflection statement. Click Submit.

HINT: The instructions ask you to write about your Web 2.0 explorations - Do the writing in MS Word or Notepad so you can copy and paste into the submission box! This is a GOOD habit to do with ALL online tools! Then, you have a copy of your submission in the event that something went awry!! We are dealing with technology - another strategy to use with YOUR students!!

Activity #3   Set up your Edublog account! Download and follow these instructions to set up your own Edublog account before next week's class session.
