Follow the Activities below to complete your assignments which are DUE next week:
- NETS document uploaded to ISAAK--do not spend more than 45 minutes on this activity (See Activity #1 below)
- BLN Post #1 completed and ready to show the TLT (TLT member will check for correct username and title) (See Activity #2 below)
- Mentoring one hour and completing the Mentor-Connector Project Log downloaded from either ISAAK or the project website at http://www.handy4class.com/ncdsbmentors.
- Explore Edublogs (see Activity #3 below).
Activity 1: Build your NETS skills [45 minutes]:
| Step 1: | Download the NETS worksheet from this link. (To download a file, place your cursor over the blue link for the file and right-click. Select Save Target As to move the file to your own computer—be sure you know where you save it!) |
| Step 2: | Open the MS Word document and be ready to type your answers into the blanks. |

| 2) | Write a brief reflection regarding what you are learning about teaching with technology or developing your own personal TPACK (Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge). What activities have you found that might work for you (TCK)? Are you developing any skills (TK)? What ideas do you have about the pedagogy for teaching with technology? (TPK) Try to include something for each of the technology areas!
REMEMBER: This should be a professional post. Those posts which read as venting, complaining, or contain other unprofessional language will not receive credit and will be required to be re-done for credit. HINT: Do this in MS Word or Notepad so you can copy and paste into the message box of the BLN! Good habit to do with your EDUBLOG, too!!!! Backups are always useful to have! |
|
| 3) | Post the reflection as a blog entry on the Brock Learning Network. I highly suggest that you give the post the title "BLN Post #1" so your TLT member can find it next week! (You were given Quicksteps for how to do this in class but can download an additional copy in Week2 Module on ISAAK.) | |
Activity 3 : Prepare for class next week by exploring Edublogs: Review the following exemplars of student-created edublogs and the Edublog Criteria Sheet. Determine three characteristics of a quality edublog for students. You will be creating your OWN edublog for a group of students next week, so take time now to look ahead!
Remember that this is a WORKSHOP class. It will benefit you to be in class; however, if you are working from home, do the following activities.
Assignments which are DUE next week:
- ScKATES Learning Object Print out (See Activity #1 below if you are not present in class)
- Edublog posted to NetVibes and the URL posted on ISAAK

Activity 1: Learning to ScKATE!
| Step 1: | Go to page 73 in your text. Keep this page open while you view the ScKATE Learning Object. |
| Step 2: | Go to the Handy4class Delicious bookmarks by clicking on the link in the upper right hand corner of this page. |
| Step 3: | Complete the ScKATE Learning Object. (Click on the blue link to access the Learning Object). The Learning Object is about 6 1/2 minutes long! |
| Step 4: | Take the quiz and print out the results. Bring to class with you! |
Activity 2: Use the Edublog Criteria sheet and the Edublog Cheatsheet given to you in class to create your own edublog and post the URL to NetVibes. There is nothing to upload to ISAAK for this activity, but you should go to the Assignment for the Edublog and type in your URL. Copies of the Edublog Criteria sheet and Edublog Cheatsheet can be downloaded from Week3 Module or the Project Description folders on ISAAK.
Activity 3: Remember to complete the log for your Mentor Connector hour.
Assignments which are DUE next week:
- Review activity types--especially those for digital storytelling. Be prepared to share this information with a group during Week 7. (See Activity #1, 2, and 3 below). - Mentoring one hour and completing the Mentor-Connector Project Log downloaded from either ISAAK or the project website at http://www.handy4class.com/ncdsbmentors.
Activity 1: Read Chapters 4 and 6 in your textbook. Review the activity types here AND in Chapters 3 and 5. Locate one activity type that interests you.
Activity 2: Carefully prepare a VERY brief summary of the activity type you selected. In this summary, include three things: the name of the activity type and a sentence or two summarizing what it is, an example of how you could see yourself using this in a lesson, and one aspect of the activity that you would be assessing.
Activity 3: Be prepared to share this information with your classmates during Week 7.

Review the following information about Digital Storytelling. These mini lectures explain how digital storytelling can be used across the curriculum and across grade levels to develop writing skills while teaching digital video skills. Students practice writing without even knowing it because they focus on the technology! Your task is to view each of the videos (OR if you are using dial-up, download the PPT presentation with script in the notes section--yes, an eBook to read!)
- Download the PowerPoint file for printing/reading
- Digital Storytelling: (Each video is no longer than 10 minutes)
Now decide what type of story your eBook will present and write the text (MS Word will work great for this). You will be using this text in your eBook during the next class session!
